2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open
PGA TOUR star Rory McIlroy, currently ranked No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), has officially committed to playing in the 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open, set to take place March 27-30 at Memorial Park Golf Course.
McIlroy enters the tournament on a high after claiming the 2025 The Players Championship title in dramatic fashion. After defeating J.J. Spaun in a Monday playoff on March 17, McIlroy secured his second win of the season, having previously triumphed at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier in the year. With four major championships under his belt—two PGA Championships (2012 and 2014), one U.S. Open (2011), and one Open Championship (2014)—McIlroy continues to cement his legacy as one of the game’s greats. Additionally, McIlroy’s seven Ryder Cup appearances, including his recent participation in 2023, and his role as a two-time Olympian for Ireland further highlight his versatility and success on the international stage. Since joining the TOUR in 2010, McIlroy has accumulated 28 PGA TOUR wins, 11 runner-up finishes, and 81 top-five finishes.

McIlroy’s participation adds to an already impressive list of golfers committed to the 2025 event, including Rickie Fowler. A fan-favorite known for his charismatic presence on the TOUR, Fowler most recently claimed victory at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. With six PGA TOUR wins to his name, Fowler has been a consistent performer, finishing tied for 21st at The American Express and tied for 18th at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches during the 2025 season.
Jason Day, currently ranked No. 35 in the OWGR, also joins the strong field. This season, Day has had two top-10 finishes, including a tie for eighth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a tie for third at The American Express. Day’s 13 career wins include a major victory at the 2015 PGA Championship.

With McIlroy’s addition to the field, three top-10 OWGR players will be competing in the 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open. McIlroy will join No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, a Texas native and reigning Masters champion, and No. 8 Wyndham Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open winner, in what promises to be an exciting and competitive tournament.
The star power doesn’t stop there. In addition to McIlroy, Day, Scheffler, and Clark, several other major champions have committed to the event. Padraig Harrington, winner of the 2007 and 2008 U.S. Opens and the 2008 PGA Championship, will compete alongside Zach Johnson, the 2007 Masters and 2015 The Open Championship winner and the 2023 U.S. Ryder Cup captain. Other major champions in the field include Matt Fitzpatrick (2022 U.S. Open), Gary Woodland (2019 U.S. Open), Francesco Molinari (2018 The Open Championship), and Danny Willett (2016 Masters).
Also joining the impressive roster is 2024 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year Nick Dunlap, currently ranked No. 38, and J.J. Spaun, who finished second to McIlroy at the 2025 Players Championship. The past two tournament champions, Stephan Jaeger (2024) and Tony Finau (2022), will also be in the mix, adding to the intrigue and excitement of the competition.
