Future of Katseye
Why is Katseye still the Global superstars that should be watched?
In the 2000s, girl groups were dominating the music industry, creating music that carried on and captured the hearts of fans across generations. Groups like Destiny’s Child, 3LW, Spice Girls, and The Pussy Cat Dolls helped define an era. They set the standard for what it means to be global sensations. But as the golden era came to an end, girl groups began to fade into the background, creating a void that many believed could not be filled. Of course, groups like Fifth Harmony and Little Mix stepped up to carry the torch to keep the girl group legacy alive. But who will continue to carry that legacy forward today?
Katseye is a six-member girl group under HYBE Entertainment known for their high production, insane musical direction, and elevated dance skills. The group was formed through the global audition program called The Debut: Dream Academy. This program brought girls from all around the world together to train and compete to become the next global superstars. In the finale, it was announced that the six members would be Manon, Daniela, Sophia, Yoonchae, Lara, and Megan.

Katseye quickly gained the attention of the world, and after the success of their song GNARLY, released in 2025, they were becoming the group everyone was watching. They would later release songs like Gameboy (2025) and Gabriela (2025), which continued to build their sound and solidify their place in the industry. The group has had so much success that they were invited to perform at the 68th Grammy Awards with their song GNARLY. With all of this success, it seemed that the girls were on the right track to becoming the it girls of this generation.
But on February 20th, 2026, it was announced that Manon would be taking a temporary hiatus from the group’s activities to focus on her health and well-being. Fans were supportive at first, but when a short break stretched into nine months without any updates, people started questioning what had actually happened.
Was this confusion the start of something bigger for the group’s future?

The group continued promoting and releasing music as five. During this time, as the silence grew louder, fans began creating their own narratives about what happened. When Pinky Up released in 2026, fans felt concerned and began speaking up more openly about Manon’s absence from the comeback. Most of the comments focused on claims that Manon was being mistreated. Fueling narratives that quickly began circulating around Katseye, which shaped how the public viewed the situation moving forward.
Even with all the speculation surrounding the status of the group, this moment doesn’t define Katseye. It simply marks a turning point.
Katseye’s journey has already shown how fast a group can rise and meet challenges, while still holding on to their endless potential that will naturally carry into their long-term success. Even during these rough patches, the group have still maintained their loyal fanbase and relevancy in the music scene. Their recent release Hootie Frutti (2026) has reached 121 million streams on YouTube, while Animal (2026) has climbed even higher with 130 million streams. These numbers show that the girls are still having major success even during this period of confusion.
But what does this mean moving forward?

This all connects back to HYBE. The main concern fans continue to express is the lack of transparency, especially regarding the details of Manon’s hiatus. Information has felt vague, and that uncertainty has made it harder for fans to fully understand what’s happening behind the scenes. HYBE does not need to share every detail with fans, but offering enough clarity to ease concerns would make a meaningful difference. Even a brief, reassuring update could help rebuild trust while also allowing space for Manon to return to the group comfortably when the time is right. HYBE needs to understand that the fans played an essential role in forming Katseye, especially through the voting system during the Dream Academy program. Because of that, many fans feel personally responsible for the group’s success and genuinely want to see them thrive.

Yes, a lot of the conversation around Katseye focuses on how they’re being managed, but it also centers on their current musical direction. And to be clear, I’ve genuinely enjoyed the songs they’ve been releasing. Their tracks are fun and easy to dance to, which has always been one of their strongest qualities. However, fans want more songs like Gameboy (2025) to be released. It is great for them to have such crazy songs that the girls can perform with on tour or festivals, however there is also a real need for versatility. Expanding their sound can allow each member to show their range and shine in different ways. Even the girls themselves have expressed how much they will like to show how vocally talented they are.

Katseye has already had a lot of success, but they are not even close to reaching their peak. The talent that these 6 girls have is undeniable and their potential stretches way beyond what we have seen so far. With clear communication and a more diverse musical direction, Katseye has every opportunity to step fully into the future that us fans know that they are capable of reaching.
Don’t give up on the girls just yet. This is only just the beginning.
