Trying the New Menu at Traveler’s Table

Traveler’s Table is a restaurant whose concept – to take its patrons on a journey across the globe without leaving their seats – is achieved through internationally inspired dishes and drinks spun with a modern twist. The global eatery is the brainchild of husband and wife duo Matthew and Thy Mitchell. Both were well-traveled and wanted to share their love for exotic cuisine through a variety of multi-ethnic dishes and drinks. Traveler’s Table is located in Montrose and has just revealed its new summer-inspired menu. We had to check it out. The experience was an all-inclusive vacation of flavors, without the 9-hour flight between locations. Buttery lobster rolls and fruity margarita flights took us from Maine to Mexico all in one refreshing brunch.

The Vibes

Travelers Table reminds me of a ship set out on a voyage. Triangular wooden arches make up the roof of the restaurant, creating a spacious wooden interior that adds a sense of grandiose to the dining experience. Natural light pours in from every angle, and eclectic decorations from all around the world line the walls. The sleek modern design combined with the warm ambience creates an environment that’s both high in energy and slightly foreign, perfect for sailing across a sea of international cuisine.

The Drinks

Our trip at began the moment after we sat down at our table with their signature mimosa and margarita flights. Breakfast at Tiffany’s was my personal favorite of the mimosas. The crème de violet and lavender bitters made for a light, floral taste that was very refreshing. Happy Wife, Happy Life was the highlight of the margarita flight, with its sweet pineapple tang mixing perfectly with the sour chili salt rimmed along the glass’ side. A third flight of espresso shots came out later in the afternoon, with the winner of them all – Good Morning Vietnam. The marriage between the Hennessy VS and coffee doubled as a dessert and a pick-me-up. All the drinks were unique and took us to their country of origin with a simple sip – make sure to check them out.

The Food

The previously mentioned Miniature New England Lobster Rolls were first on the menu. It was a classic executed perfectly – fresh lobster on a grilled brioche roll with clarified butter ripe for dipping. The fennel wasn’t overpowering, and the lobster was so juicy I almost skipped out of the butter… key word almost. Next came the Jerk Chicken and Waffles, our favorite of the day. The rum syrup on its own almost had me booking a flight to Jamaica – but that mixed with the crispy chicken thigh, sweet plantain relish, and fluffy buttermilk waffles? Otherworldly is the only way to describe it. We also tried out the Crawfish and Grits and Mango Chocoflan – both highlights that you should order when you visit.

Final Thoughts

Our experience at Travler’s Table was wonderful from start to finish. Located on 520 Westheimer Rd, we were immediately offered valet upon arrival and walked straight in. Our waiter, Anthony, kindly explained each dish and drink’s country of origin and brought us everything we needed. The hospitality, ambience, food, and drinks were all exceptional. Traveler’s Table menu changes semi-regularly, so make sure to check out this one while you still can! It is the perfect summer journey.
