Tacodeli: Mexican Dinner Plates and Refreshing Cocktails

September 10, 2021

Tacodeli first opened its doors in 1999 but the Mexican chain began with the flavors of Mexico City. Founder, Roberto Espinosa grew up with rich cuisine native to Mexico City. It was these flavors and Austin culture that inspired Tacodeli’s menu.

Now for the first time, Tacodeli is offering brand new dinner plates, housemade cocktails and more. Their brand new menu includes new meals such as Mole de Pollo, Pastor Yucatan, Arrachera and Escalopas Especiales.

Their new cocktails include a variety of margaritas served both frozen and on the rocks and a refreshing Paloma. The margaritas are lime flavored with the option to make it a swirl with the addition of agua fresca flavors like Sandia, Horchata and Basil Pina. We were invited to the Tacodeli dinner & cocktail preview a few weeks ago and had to share our favorites.

New Flavors

The first preview that we got to taste was the Mole de Pollo, which is served over veggie white rice and black beans. Lightly sprinkled on top is some queso fresco which compliments the nutty flavor of the mole. For anyone unfamiliar with mole, this sauce is made with chocolate, peanuts, chicken, chili peppers and other seasonings.

New Flavors

This dish is perfect for anyone who wants a meal with healthy ingredients that are also light and full of flavor. The queso fresco, which is a brilliant topping for light meals is also featured on the Pastor Yucatan.

The Pastor Yucatan is served over a banana leaf and topped with red onion escabeche and Mexican rice and black beans topped with queso fresco. The pastor pork is well seasoned, with the red onion escabeche adding a tangy flavor to the meat. The Mexican rice is savory and paired well with the black beans.

The Arrachera is a mojo seasoned flank steak with Mexichurri and green onions. Mojo is a Cuban marinade that includes citrus flavors and went well with the refreshing flavor of the Mexichurri sauce on the steak. The Arrachera is served with Mexican rice and black beans.

The Drinks

Tacodeli also unveiled housemade cocktails – their options are lime margaritas served either frozen or on the rocks with options available to make it a swirl by adding aguas frescas and a refreshing Paloma.

Both are served with a chili salt rim and a lime. The drinks are refreshing and delicious, perfect for having cocktails at the outdoor patio at the Crestview location. The new dinner menu is served at 4 p.m. daily.
