Maru Japanese Restaurant Review

Maru Japanese restaurant has been an Austin favorite since it opened its doors in the early 2000’s. It has since maintained its unique, tucked-away, spot on Burnet Road. This restaurant is family-owned and consists of a mid-size dining room and an additional seating area at the sushi bar. If you are looking for a simple, yet elegant dining experience, Maru Japanese restaurant is the place to go. Maru offers a wide selection of sushis that are a must when visiting this spot. Additionally, Maru offers a full Japanese menu.

Ambiance of the Restaurant:

Like many of Austin’s Japanese restaurants, the vibe at Maru restaurant is soft and elegant which reflects the vibe of the owners, a cute Japanese couple who have been running the restaurant for years. Adorned with classic Japanese fashion and the occasional splash of color, this spot manages to balance a cool, cozy, and classy atmosphere. The size of the dining room is just right for when you don’t want to go to a place that makes you feel overwhelmed by the number of people. Additionally, the staff is nothing less than amazing and provides excellent service which is a big plus in today’s situation.

Maru Japanese Restaurant:

As mentioned previously, Maru Japanese restaurant has a broad menu to choose from. We understand big menus can make one feel intimidated, however, let us give you a few recommendations to avoid that awkward situation when the waiter decides to take your order! A fan favorite for this local spot is the tuna and salmon nigiri which is generously served and has a thick and soft taste to it.  The sushi here is one of the freshest we’ve tried and is served in big portions that give you your dollars worth. If you prefer a more “Americanized” roll, reviewers recommend that you stick to their special rolls like The Spider Roll. If you’re looking for something on the fresher side we recommend you try The Hawaiian Roll, we are sure you will be extremely satisfied by the freshness of this roll.

Maru Japanese Restaurant Lunch:

Although Maru Japanese Restaurant doesn’t offer a menu dedicated especially to lunch, they have various options for a nice meal during lunch hours. Our favorite lunch option is the Mru combo which ensures you try a wide variety of their menu by including 9-piece sashimi, 8-piece nigiri, any roll, tempura, miso, and salad.

Maru Japanese Restaurant Dinner:

If you’re checking in at Maru’s for dinner, we recommend anything from their dinner menu. Their dinner combination meals are served with tempura, California roll, soup, salad, and rice on select meal choices. Additionally, their dinner menu includes an extensive list of appetizers, special rolls, and noodles.

The drinks at Maru Japanese restaurant are also a must. Their selection of beers is classic and includes a selection of foreign beers that you can’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re a fan of Sake or not, if you’re gonna try it at some point you should definitely sip one while munching on a nice salmon teriyaki.
