Austin’s Ice Cream Heaven – Jeni’s Ice Cream
With only three locations in Texas, Jeni’s Ice Cream is finally able to call Austin, TX “home”. Located on the busy strip of South Congress, Jeni’s has secured a little storefront and has marked it as their flagship store.
Parking here can be tricky, but after you’ve secured a spot, you have to wait in line outside of the door. Due to COVID, Jeni’s has been making efforts to keep its employees as well as customers safe. They only allow one party in at a time and it is a little tight fit once you walk in, but that is just to ensure safe social distancing practice. you can check store location and timing here.
If it is your first time there, the employees are more than happy to answer any questions you might have on the options and flavors that they have. When I got there, I have to admit that I was slightly overwhelmed upon arrival because there were so many different flavors to choose from.
All of their flavors were unique and you would not be able to find them anywhere else. Unfortunately, they are not allowing samples right now, but after trying one of the flavors myself I can already guess how great the other flavors taste!
The Brambleberry Crisp was the flavor that caught my eye when I first walked in. The texture of the ice cream was extremely creamy and sweet, it paired perfectly with the semi-tart brambleberry, and mixed with the streusel crust created a perfect balance of flavor and texture.
Every bite I had was just as amazing as the first bite! It makes me want to come back and try all of the flavors.
They also offer different kinds of scoops, from single, standard (double), trio, flights, to pints. I would also recommend trying their homemade waffle cone! Although they offer two other cones, I just HAD to try their butter-crisp waffle cone. The texture was amazing and had a little balance of sweet and salty from the salted butter.
Jeni’s ice cream fits perfectly on South Congress. Located in an eco-friendly city, I was ecstatic to learn that Jeni’s has committed to being zero waste. 95% of their products (pints, cups, bowls, spoons, napkins, etc) are reusable, recyclable, or compostable.
Learning this makes the ice cream taste so much better! Supporting companies that strive to make the world a better place also contributes to giving back. Knowing how much effort Jeni’s has put into crafting each ice cream flavor while making their products sustainable is truly amazing.
If you are ever craving something sweet, Jeni’s is the place to satisfy those cravings.
