10 Best Affordable Meals Near UT Austin
Cabo Bob’s is famous for its huge, made to order burritos that include fresh fillings and tortillas. A custom burrito with your choice of grilled chicken, steak, or fish, rice, beans, veggies, and sauce comes in at around $10–$13 and it’s easily big enough to split into multiple meals.
However, the kids’ meal, which consists of a small burrito, chips, queso, and a drink, comes in at $6. This deal is unbeatable and is utilized by students such as myself regularly. Don’t be sad about the smaller burrito, it’s still very filling and the chips and queso help as well!
Takeout service is fast, and regardless of length the line goes by quickly is well worth it for the quality delivered.
Here, their soda options use real cane sugar, resulting in delicious and better for you drinks. Their ingredients are never frozen and their huge tortillas are pressed from a ball of dough right as you order, highlighting their dedication to providing an experience of both quality and quantity to their customers.
You can order dishes online, and the restaurant accepts credit cards and offers catering. With fresh taste, student oriented pricing, and large portion sizes, Cabo Bob’s delivers a reliable, hearty meal in a friendly counter-service setting that keeps students coming back.

You might not expect a grocery store to be on a list of student meal favorites, but the sandwich counter inside Sprouts on South Lamar is an underrated spot for a quick and cheap meal. For around $6, you can build a massive custom sandwich with your choice of fresh and flavorful meats, cheeses, veggies, and sauce. For just $1 more, add a bag of chips and a drink for a complete meal.
These sandwiches are made fresh to order, loaded with high quality toppings and meat, and have been praised on Reddit for their price and size. The Brodie Oaks location at 4006 S Lamar Blvd is open daily from 7 AM to 10 PM, plenty of hours for lunch, dinner, or late-night study fuel. With a high Google rating and over 100 reviews, it’s a trusted spot for fresh, customizable meals.
While the grocery vibe is casual, the deli quality rivals local sandwich shops that charge triple the price. If you’re looking for a fast, healthy, affordable alternative to fast food, Sprouts’ sandwich counter is a reliable, underrated favorite.

Korea House is a charming and cozy restaurant located just about 15 minutes from the UT Austin campus, making it a favorite spot for students and locals alike. What truly sets Korea House apart is their unique monthly tradition: on the first Wednesday of every month, they offer all customers free entrees! This special deal creates a happy and welcoming atmosphere that encourages community and connection between Austinites, students and non-students alike.
Many students come in groups to enjoy the delicious meals and hang out with friends, but if you visit alone or with just one or two people, the staff will seat you at a shared table with other patrons. This is a great way to meet new people and make friends in Austin, especially for those new to the city or looking to expand their social circles.
The combination of tasty Korean dishes, a friendly vibe, and the free entree night makes Korea House a beloved local tradition. It’s always an exciting, fun, and tasty experience, perfect for students, families, or anyone looking to enjoy a unique dining event without spending any money on their main course.

Korea House offers some delicious authentic Korean food at a fair price. The staff is friendly and polite. We only had to wait for a brief moment to be seated. First off, it was refreshing to get a large variety of banchan. Each one was tasty, from the fish cake, cucumber kimchi, soy potato, cabbage kimchi, daikon radish, to korean peppers. Also, they don't charge extra if you want more (becoming rare these days). The dishes are flavorful and addicting. I recommend the dolsot bibimbob, Korean pancake, ojingeo bokkem, and bulgogi. Keep up the great work!

This cozy cafe on campus in the alumni center serves up breakfast and lunch favorites that students love. Their kolaches,l especially the jalapeño, sausage, and cheese, are both hearty and affordable, coming in around $3–$4 each. The paninis and grilled cheeses are other student favorites, perfect for a midday break.
Open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 3 PM, this cozy café offers a menu of fresh-brewed coffee, espresso drinks, teas, sandwiches, soups, salads, and pastries. The prices are student-friendly, with many menu items under $10, making it an ideal stop between classes or meetings.
Despite the yummy food, Texas Expresso shines for its drinks. They serve a variety of options such as matcha, coffee, tea, and smoothies, all coming in a wide variety of flavors. My go-to order is an iced chai and a kolache or two. A combination that has supported me through many long homework sessions in the coffee shop.
Texas Expresso offers indoor seating and a relaxed, studious vibe that’s great for catching up on work, chatting with friends, or grabbing a bite before events at the alumni center. It’s not a full-service restaurant, but the efficient counter service and high quality food and drinks make it one of the most convenient options on campus.

P. Terry’s Burger Stand is a beloved Texas-born fast-casual chain rooted in Austin since 2005, offering simple, all-natural burgers, hand-cut fries, shakes, breakfast, and drinks at wallet-friendly prices.
With single patties starting around $3, cheeseburgers at $4, and veggie or chicken options under $5.50, it remains a popular choice for students, families, and late-night diners. Many locations add drive-thru convenience, some open 24/7, like the original Barton Springs and Ben White stands, making P. Terry’s a reliable go-to at any hour.
P Terry’s is proud to serve never frozen and antibiotic free meat, making it a healthier choice than lots of other fast food restaurants. For non meat eaters, their veggie burger is also a fan favorite, and the breakfast sandwiches are a steal at around $3–$4.
There are many locations around central Texas, but the Martin Luther King, Jr Boulevard storefront is walkable from campus and perfect for late-night cravings or a quick meal after class. Whether you’re grabbing a quick breakfast, late-night crispy chicken sandwich, or a hearty double cheeseburger with fries, P. Terry’s combines affordability, quality, and character in a way that feels distinctly Texan.

Day 4 of jury duty and I decided to go eat at p. Terry's. Been eating p Terry's since at least 2012 so I'm familiar with their menu. This location is accessible by the front of the street or an alley. Parking is available but limited. Inside is the traditional aesthetic and very clean and simple. The drink station's a little large compared to other locations but it looks like it's preexisting but it also looks like it's very empty. Maybe some signage to cover up this area or a picture? Ordered a double cheeseburger combo. No special sauce for me. Not a fan but I also haven't had it in a long time so I don't remember. Honestly I just like mustard cuz it's less calories. Always get the rice crispy and then upgrade the lemonade to a large. Pea Terry's does do free refills so that's nice. Overall normal experience and what do you hear again.

Had a great, delicious time here! We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were amazing—I’ve always wanted to try them. I had the breakfast tacos (scrambled tofu, vegan chorizo and cheese), and they were really, really nice. Good portion for the price, super tasty. It came with a sauce (didn’t try the sauce - not really a sauce person) My friend had the avocado toast, and she really liked it. Portion was just right for her too. We also had a lemonade (a bit too sweet for us) and two coffees, and they gave us refills (We’re not used to refills, so we always enjoy that in the U.S.) The place was big, the crowd was friendly, the person who served us was great. Definitely recommend!

A newcomer to the area, Mian & Bao specializes in Chinese dim sum dishes and noodle bowls. Their dumplings and small plates are flavorful and affordable, most items are under $10. This creates a fun atmosphere for bringing a few friends and each ordering a couple of plates to share, getting to try more of their incredible menu while making lasting happy memories. The menu centers on Sichuan and Shanghainese specialties. The casual setting features communal high‑top tables and a QR-code ordering system that emphasizes speedy, practical service.
The star dish, soup dumplings, earned praise for their juicy broth–filled interiors created to be punctured before eating. Other standout items include spicy beef noodle soup, bold Sichuan cold noodles, and chili oil wontons. Portions are described as fair to generous, especially for the price you pay, and some dumplings may even be on the larger side.
The combo of spice, savory depth, and soft texture makes this place stand out from others near West Campus. If you’re looking for something fast and satisfying that isn’t tacos or burgers, this is a great pick.

This is a great Chinese restaurant! We went for lunch, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We started with the Beef Pancake Roll and the Pan-Fried Chicken Dumplings. I especially loved the dumplings and would highly recommend them. They were packed with flavor, perfectly crispy on the outside, and juicy on the inside. We also tried the Xiao Long Bao, which were tasty and well-prepared.

Armando’s Kitchen & Deli is a beloved hidden gem tucked into a West Campus Shell location, just off Rio Grande Street. It’s a casual spot that UT students return to again and again for its affordable, fresh comfort food—especially breakfast tacos and sandwiches. Open Monday through Saturday from 7 AM to 8 PM, Armando’s offers a blend of Mexican-American dishes like breakfast plates, burgers, burritos, and tacos, all served with warm hospitality and fast service.
Most meals are under $15, making it a go-to for students on a budget, and portions are generous enough to carry you through multiple meals. The standout item to me is definitely the sandwiches—huge slices of bread, great portions of Boar’s Head deli meats, and homemade sauces like their delicious chipotle mayo make these a go-to. You can customize your own sandwich or choose from one of their menu options like the spicy reuben or Armando’s club. While there’s no fancy decor or dine-in ambiance within the gas station, don’t let it fool you. The friendly staff and reliable, freshly made food more than make up for it.

I came here for a quick breakfast and Armando's more than delivered. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast taco and a double stack of pancakes and the total was less than $10. The side salsas for the breakfast taco were perfection, my favorite was the red. I'll definitely be back!
