The New Mexican Restaurant in Austin – Seareinas
If you haven’t heard yet, there’s a new Mexican restaurant in town called Seareinas. This place sells seafood and sushi, but with a Mexican twist. And if you didn’t know, there’s a HUGE difference between Mexican seafood and American seafood. Both are delicious, but in my opinion Mexican seafood is superior. Mexicans just know how to flavor their food.
First, let’s talk about the location. Seareinas is located in North Austin, by Highway 35. It’s definitely not in the middle of Austin, but on a good day, it’s a solid 20-minute trip from downtown. I promise you it will be worth it.
When first entering the restaurant, you’ll see the incredible ambiance they’ve created. You can just tell they put A LOT of effort into making the restaurant feel inviting. They have cool wallpaper that matches the colors of the restaurant, plants that hang down from the ceiling, and a huge projector towards the front of the restaurant. All this being said, this place is perfect for huge groups who want good food on a game night. In addition, they have a stage for bands to play on, which is just another bonus.
As for the food, everything exceeded my expectations… and that’s saying a lot. I’m a Mexican who has eaten tons of Mexican seafood in Mexico, so I expected good, quality seafood with TONS of flavor. Seareinas did exactly that. The tostada trio was refreshing, flavorful, and delicious. The two sushi rolls I ordered––the culchito roll and the malverde roll––were next-level good. They tasted as if they came from an actual sushi restaurant. I was overjoyed and ate everything.
Finally, I couldn’t finish this restaurant review without talking about the aguas frescas. If you’ve never had one, agua frescas are drinks made of fruit blended with water, lime juice, and a bit of sweetener. They are SO refreshing and flavorful, I would highly recommend trying one anywhere! As for this restaurant, they hit it out of the ballpark. I had the watermelon agua fresca, and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. If you want to add a little kick, you can also ask your waiter or waitress to add some tequila.
Overall, I loved my experience at Seareinas. I came in craving authentic Mexican seafood, and that’s exactly what I got. Even though I only ordered a few items, they were all I needed to make sure this restaurant was the real deal. I will definitely be returning soon, and I will definitely take all my friends during the football, basketball, and soccer season!
