Houston Open Preview 2024

As the PGA Tour shifts gears from the Sunshine State to the Lone Star State, the golfing world’s attention turns to the 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open, the first of two pivotal tournaments preceding the prestigious Masters at Augusta National. Set against the backdrop of the iconic Memorial Park Golf Course, this year’s event promises excitement and thrills for both avid golf enthusiasts and families alike.

Memorial Park Golf Course

Memorial Park Golf Course, revitalized by renowned architect Tom Doak in 2019, now stands as a shining gem among municipal courses, drawing parallels to major championship-caliber venues like Torrey Pines and Bethpage Black. Its fairways, traversed by over 60,000 players annually, serve as the battleground for some of the world’s top golfers, who descend upon Houston for a shot at glory.

From March 28th to 31st, the lush greens of Memorial Park will witness a clash of titans as seasoned pros like Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, and defending champion Tony Finau vie for supremacy. But it’s not just about the pros—families are encouraged to join in the festivities, with special tents offering delectable treats and refreshing beverages, alongside kid-friendly zones featuring putt-putt, miniature golf carts, and even a drawing wall.

This year marks a return to tradition for the Houston Open, reclaiming its spot in the spring calendar after a brief stint in the fall. The stakes are high, with the winner earning a coveted invitation to the Masters, adding an extra layer of excitement to an already thrilling event.

The Stars

Scottie Scheffler, riding the momentum of back-to-back victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and THE PLAYERS Championship, leads the pack, aiming to etch his name in history with a third consecutive win. But he faces stiff competition from the likes of Wyndham Clark, Will Zalatoris, and a host of other talented players, all hungry for success on the hallowed grounds of Memorial Park.
