In celebration of National Chocolate Cake Day, I decided to reminisce and bake my favorite chocolate cake from the childhood book turned movie Matilda. If you all don’t remember Bruce Bogtrotter, he was a young kid that Miss Trunchbull accused of stealing a slice of her chocolate cake. After a moment, she decides to punish him by forcing him to eat a whole cake in front of the entire student body. At the time any young kid would pay to be able to eat an entire cake without our parents’ permission, so why not do so today when we bake a copycat of this delicious chocolate cake.

Ingredients

Cake batter

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups white sugar

3/4 cup cocoa powder

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp   baking powder

1 tsp salt

¾ cup of milk

2     large eggs

1/4 cup vegetable oil

3/4 cup water

2 tsp vanilla

Frosting

1 stick       unsalted butter

1 1/2 cups       white sugar

1 cup      heavy whipping cream

2/3 cup     sour cream

2 tsp     vanilla

7. Remove from the oven and let cool

8. Place the cake on your choice of surface and begin to frost the cake.

9. Enjoy!!
