The Juilliard String Quartet Closes Out The Season

ATX Chamber Music and Jazz is proud to conclude its second season with a performance by none other than the renowned Juilliard String Quartet (JSQ) — an ensemble that has stood at the forefront of chamber music for nearly eight decades. This exciting season finale, taking place on May 17 at the Riverbend Centre for the Arts, will also feature a special collaboration with Anna Petrova, pianist and Co-Artistic Director of ATX Chamber Music and Jazz.

Founded in 1946, the Juilliard String Quartet holds a prestigious position as the String Quartet in Residence at The Juilliard School in New York City. Revered as one of the most influential string quartets in history, the JSQ is celebrated not only for its technical mastery and expressive depth, but also for its unique ability to honor tradition while pushing the boundaries of the classical repertoire. Their performances are marked by profound understanding, total commitment, and a sense of unceasing curiosity.

This dual dedication to the classical canon and contemporary innovation will be on full display in Austin, as the JSQ presents Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 13 in B-flat major, Op. 130, one of the composer’s monumental late works. The program will also feature Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44, a masterwork of the Romantic era, performed alongside Anna Petrova.

The evening promises not only world-class music, but also an elevated social experience. Guests are invited to arrive early to enjoy a curated selection of unique wines and artisanal cheese boards provided by The Cape Bottle Room. After the concert, audience members will have the opportunity to meet the artists at an intimate post-performance reception.
