Pickleball is Taking Over Austin
Everyone in Austin is going crazy over Pickleball. This increasingly popular game is fun, active, and one that all ages can enjoy. Pickleball is a great activity to get outside and get moving or it can be a game enjoyed for the social appeal of friends and maybe a cocktail. Nonetheless, pickleball is easy to learn and the perfect way to spend your time as the weather gets warmer. Pickleball is taking over Austin because it is a game you can learn and absolutely fall in love with in about 15 minutes. Here is what you need to know to hop on the wave:
What is it?
The game of pickleball is a mix between tennis, badminton, and ping pong. This game can be played outdoors or indoors, and is played on a badminton-sized court with a net very similar to a tennis net. To play, you need a pickleball paddle and a wiffle ball. The game can be played as singles or doubles and is very simple for beginners to learn.

Where can you Play?
To find a court, check out any recreation centers, neighborhood parks, or country clubs near you! Also, because tennis courts are very similar to pickleball courts,my tip is to grab some chalk and draw out the kitchen. Tennis courts are everywhere and while the dimensions are slightly off, this is an easy way to find a court to play on that is nearby!
Pickleball is also a social outing! Check out beer gardens like Bouldin Acres that have pickleball courts to rent! Hang outside in the sun, grab a drink and food, and have some fun playing the game!
What do I need to play? Where can I get the equipment?
All you need to play is a paddle and a wiffle ball! Most centers have paddles available to rent, but because I know you will fall in love with this game, you can purchase a paddle from Amazon and sporting stores like Academy or Dicks. As your skills increase you might even consider getting a trendy Austin-designed paddle from the brand Recess. I swear my Recess paddle makes me a better player.
