Austin’s Most Instagrammable Restaurants

Megan Aune

Okay, I’ll admit it: I do a lot of things purely for the aesthetic. It’s fun! At any given time, I like to know that a snapshot taken of my life could be used in a coming-of-age movie (at least in the background, I’d hope). So when I see an Instagram post of an aesthetic restaurant on my feed, it immediately sparks my curiosity. If you’re the same, check out this list and come bask in the gorgeous, insta-worthy beauty of one of Austin’s prettiest restaurants.

Aba

When I stumbled upon this place while wandering around South Congress, I half expected to see pixies flitting around the plants. With the dark wood, light furniture, lush plant life (including a whole tree!), and all that down-to-earth warm lighting, Aba has a seriously mystical vibe. They serve Meditteranean food, and their chef, CJ Jakobson, incorporates influences from Israel, Lebanon, Turkey, and Greece into his beautiful, delectable dishes. If your profile has an earthy, slightly wood nymph-esque aesthetic, you should definitely spend an evening at Aba–for the menu and the pics.

Taquero Mucho

If monochrome is your thing and you haven’t heard of Taquero Mucho…well, I might be a bit disappointed in you. It’s okay, though! Now you’re here, and I’m ready to tell you all about the flawlessly feminine and perfectly pink concept of one of Austin’s most beloved taquerias. Gabriela Bucio, who you may know as founder of Gabriela’s downtown, opened Taquero Mucho to create a space for women to feel welcomed, empowered, and loved, as well as serve some amazing food that pays homage to her status as the only Latina owner on West Sixth Street. The result: a magnificent Tex-Mex favorite that can definitely add some feminist flair to your Instagram.

Joann’s Fine Foods

I first visited Joann’s while doing some preliminary research for this post on secret patios,  but quickly learned that this South Congress must-stop is truly the gift that keeps on giving. There’s really no bad place for a picture here–whether you prefer the retro, diner-style interior, the colorful front patio, or the mosaic-adorned back patio is really up to you. And like the other restaurants on this list, Joann’s Fine Foods isn’t just for looking at, and definitely lives up to its name. Everything tastes amazing and fresh (and though I’m stoutly loyal to their Avocado Tacos, I’d doubt there’s anything on the menu not worth a trip over here) so next time you’re around SoCo, stop by for some colorful pics to spice up your profile and be sure to come with an empty stomach.

Sixth and Waller

Whether you’re a food-blogger, an insta-model, or just like to share your day with your friends over social media, Sixth and Waller has got you covered. This place is floor-to-ceiling beautiful. Funky lighting fixtures, eclectic decor, and gorgeously tiled tables can barely even begin to cover this place, but I think you’d have trouble snapping a pic that doesn’t look colorful and unique. Their menu features a variety of dishes from all over the world–everything from tater tots to jackfruit bàhn mí, so you can count on finding something you like and pictures your friends will love.

Gabriela’s Downtown

Remember Gabriela from Taquero Mucho? Yeah, she’s really got her brand down. Her OG restaurant, Gabriela’s downtown, which she owns with her brother Arturo, features tacos and margaritas from their family’s Michoacán family recipes. It also has a gorgeous aesthetic, curated by stunning drinks, delicious-looking food (which their colorful tables make an amazing backdrop for), and picture-perfect murals and neon signs. However you choose to curate your profile, Gabriela’s is ready to help you out with it.
