TenTen- The New Friday Lunch Menu

Ally Galipp | March 1, 2023

TenTen, a hit Downtown Austin modern Japanese restaurant, is launching a brand new lunch menu with offerings that look and taste delectable. Their new lunch menu is complete with donburi rice bowls, sushi, plates, and a variety of our specialty robata dishes. Lunch is now available every Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Appetizers and Sushi

Choosing which option to try from the menu is a hard task. Their appetizers feature Charred Edamame, Crispy Octopus, Miso soup, a 2-piece chef selection of Gyoza Tacos, Shrimp Tempura, Chilled Sauteed Spinach, and Beet Sunomono. For starters, we tried the Miso Soup and the Chilled Sauteed Spinach.

The Miso Soup was warm and nourishing and included tofu and wakame. I especi ally loved the touch of pickled ginger in the Chilled Sauteed Spinach. This selection also is covered in a goma dressing and topped with crispy shallots.

Along with the appetizers we could not pass up trying one of the sushi selections. TenTen’s menu features hand roll flights, Salmon Crudo, 6-piece Sashimi, 5-Piece Nigiri, Shrimp Tempura Maki, and Spicy Tuna Maki. We tried the 3-piece chef selection hand roll flight. This was our first time trying a hand roll so we were unsure of the correct way to eat them, but it turns out we were not wrong in our technique using our hands. That is why it’s called a hand roll! Finished in two bites and was wishing we ordered another flight!

Plates and Donburi

For our main selection, TenTen offers a wide variety of different plates and Donburi. Lunch plates include options like Crab Cakes and Branzino Tempura to satisfy your midday cravings. Donburi is a Japanese rice bowl dish consisting of fish, meat, vegetables, or other ingredients cooked together and served over rice.

We tried the Wagyu Beef Donburi which contains sweet potato, hon shemiji, pickled jalapenos, and black garlic. The Wagyu was cooked to perfection and melts in your mouth. The pickled jalapenos didn’t override the flavor at all but added a subtle spice to it. This dish is unbelievable. When I go back it will be hard to try something new.

Cocktails and Mocktails

Tenten offers a wide selection of Japanese Inspired cocktails, mocktails, and Japanese teas handcrafted to capture traditional flavors with added flare. I tried their Japanese mint herbal tea, one of their popular options and it was soothing and tasty.

Conclusion

TenTen’s new Friday lunch menu is exciting and exploding with flavor. Not only is the presentation of the food beautiful, but the restaurant is an upscale and vibrant setting as well as a cozy and intimate ambiance. They are also accommodating to special diets and offer a gluten-free soy sauce. TenTen is definitely worth a stop on your Friday afternoon and will not disappoint!
