Urban – An American Grill

Within a Westin at the Domain lies Urban – An American Grill. This Austin-inspired restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, serving up traditionally American cuisine like pancakes, burgers, and steaks.

The restaurant’s airy dining room, classy, yet simple bar, and open-concept kitchen all combine to create a welcoming environment. The nice outdoor patio is also a plus.

Urban does not offer takeout or delivery. Although you can’t reserve a table in advance, the dining space is large, and waiting should not be an issue.

Urban’s Menu

The menu is inspired by the city of Austin, “offerings that mirror Austin’s vibrant personality with traditional fare incorporating local flavors and ingredients,” as stated on their website. They have two separate menus, an all day and a breakfast one. Both offer a depth of variety from thick buttermilk pancakes to a baked egg frittata and Texas-sized burgers along with a nice helping of appetizers such as poblano queso and crispy brussel sprouts, one of the more popular items on the menu.

Urban’s Breakfast

For breakfast, Urban provides the traditional fare that you might see at most brunch spots. Enough french toast, pancakes, and waffles (strawberry shortcakes ones at that) to make your mouth water. In their “From the Pantry” section of the menu, you can find parfaits, overnight oats, and Norwegian smoked salmon. There is also a buffet available.

As for larger, more traditional plates, the chimichurri steak and eggs stand out the most. There is also a smoked brisket benedict, chilaquiles, and a build-your-own omelet. Breakfast is definitely the way to go at Urban.

Urban’s All Day

Although their all-day menu isn’t as expansive as the breakfast offerings, the variety holds strong. Some of the dishes that caught my eye include the shrimp and chorizo gnocchi, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and the pork carnitas tacos as an appetizer.

The menu is separated into three distinct sections: appetizers, salads and sandwiches, and large plates. The prices are a little bit steep, but the ideas seem new, genuine, and just a little inspired. Urban also happens to offer vegetarian options in their beyond burger and quinoa chili.

Location + Opening and Closing Hours

Urban is located at the Domain, inside of the Westin hotel, in north Austin. During the week, they are open for breakfast from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. while their all-day menu is offered from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. On weekends, Urban opens from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. and then from 12 to 10 p.m. Happy hour deals are available Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Conclusion

Even though their all-day menu isn’t as deep as you might want it to be, the variety that it offers and the unbelievable breakfast menu make up for it. Urban – An American Grill is a great place to let yourself be taken care of. The food is comforting. The service is great. And, make sure to take advantage of that stellar breakfast.
