Our Visit to TLC Austin

Avery Smith | February 15, 2022

Everybody needs some TLC, the restaurant of course. Located in the Lamar Union, this family-friendly indoor and outdoor restaurant is the place to get a good Texas home cooked meal. TLC offers a range of 30 different beers on tap and a wide range of surf and turf. Upon entering the restaurant you are able to seat yourselves and can opt to order completely on your phone or with a waiter

For The Table

Choosing just one appetizer for the table was an almost impossible decision. There were just too many good choices to make one, so we didn’t. Instead, to start we got the Charbroiled Oysters per our waiter’s recommendation and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp.

This was my first time trying oysters, and TLC see did not disappoint. Embarrassingly, I did have to look up how to eat a charbroiled oyster before I could try them, but once I got my technique down I didn’t want to stop. They were absolutely delicious with the combination of the rich oyster, butter, and garlicky taste. Next, we had the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp which personally might’ve been might favorite part of the meal. The bacon was cooked to a crisp and stuffed with shrimp, jalapeno, and cream cheese. When dipped in the lemon butter it was heavenly.

The Main Course

The next thing that we ordered was the Seafood Gumbo. Something my grandma always use to tell me as a kid was if the gumbo makes your nose run, you know it’s good. Boy did my nose run. The Gumbo had an array of seafood which blended well with the vegetables and white rice. Pro tip: order a side of bread it’s made by an artisanal bakery in New Jersey and tastes amazing when you dip it in the gumbo.

Because we had ordered so much surf we had to balance it out with some turf. Our next order of business was the Texan. The Texan is beef hamburger, with sharp cheddar cheese, refried beans, onions, guacamole, and salsa. The quirky pairing was a little slice of TexMex all wrapped up into one big burger.

Dessert

No meal is completed without dessert, that’s why we capped off our meal with TLC’s Chocolate Brownie. It was baked to perfection with a crispy outside and a gooey inside. Topped off with vanilla ice cream the brownie came straight from the oven and barely hit the table before we devoured it. After stuffing ourselves and playing tons of games in their arcade I can confirm that everybody truly does need a little bit of TLC in their life.
