Plank Seafood Provisions – Detailed Review

Ambiance of the Restaurant

Plank Seafood Provisions opened in the Spring of 2021 at the Domain in Austin with a focus and dedication to sustainable seafood, transparent sourcing, and a “coastally inspired” menu. This is Plank’s second location with the first one having opened in Omaha, Nebraska in 2013.

Plank was created by Flagship Restaurant Group, a collective focused on creating unique dining experiences. Flagship has restaurants ranging from Tex-Mex cantinas to a pub food restaurants with locations in the Midwest, Texas, and even Colorado.

The welcoming atmosphere, enhanced by all the natural light and the hanging greenery, combined with the new rustic decor enlivens the main dining area. The hull of a ship sways above diners as wooden lanterns keep the room alight. An open kitchen brings it all together into a warm medley.

Plank Seafood Provisions Menu

Although Plank doubles as an oyster bar and an upscale seafood restaurant in Austin, the simplistic menu offers just enough variety to ensure the need for return visits. Split into smaller sections, the menu includes everything from shareable, wood-grilled plates, Plank classics, and even a no-frills, grilled seafood section where all dishes are served with fingerling potatoes and a dressed frisee salad.

As for the most popular dishes, the ahi tuna served upon ginger scallion noodles was a standout favorite. And, the sea scallops alongside a squid-ink linguini layered with a sourdough gremolata and a carrot puree contained the most vibrant combination of colors and flavors.

Plank Seafood Provisions’ depth and flavor provide for an incredible dining experience. The service is top-notch, and the actual presentation of the food is incredible. A wild array of colors make up each and every plate, and the excellent presentation turns every entree into an art piece.

One of the things I most enjoyed about Plank was the colors in the restaurant. From the decorations to the eye-popping food, everything impressed me. I will say that I wish there was more variety in oyster selection. The menu only provides one option which seems rather small for a self-proclaimed oyster bar.
