North Italia in Austin

Prosciutto, spaghetti, and prosecco, oh my! North Italia restaurant serving Italian cuisine in Austin features high-class seating and impeccable service all for an affordable price. Here at North Italia every meal is cooked to perfection and ready to serve in order to make your experience one to remember. It is easy to spot where the closest North is just by smelling the outside air!

Every time I walk around the domain restaurants in Austin, I easily find myself tempted by the strong scent of homemade pizza and pasta lurking from North’s outside patio. The menu offers an array of antipasti, wood-fired pizzas, and creative pasta dishes. And, don’t forget the well-chosen wine list for each sophisticated guest ready to sit down and indulge!

The Experience

Their modern Italian cuisine matches the contemporary interior of the restaurant. The loft-like environment gives off an urban feel with all of the sleek interiors and the placement of tables. From brick accent walls to dark stained floors, guests are able to sit at either a table or booth while enjoying a view of the open kitchen.

The unique lighting and floor-to-ceiling windows make this open-concept floor plan attractive to many. I felt very posh simply sitting at one of the middle tables, looking out the windows as people walked by. It felt like I was eating somewhere in New York because of the fast-paced atmosphere.

I will admit that every time I go there always tends to be a wait. However, that’s only because the food is absolutely scrumptious. For those who want to try out this popular joint, I recommend making a reservation ahead of time to avoid playing the waiting game. Despite the long wait times, you are at The Domain after all. The wait time can feel super fast because of all the stores that can entertain you. Whether you want to dine in with friends, family, or your significant other, this is the right spot for you.

For Starters

One of my favorite things to order with whoever I am dining with is the Italian Meatballs made with creamy polenta, rustic marinara, and Grana Padano. It is very easy to share and devour this plate – I could even eat all of them on my own. If you’re debating on treating yourself to a cocktail my answer is yes! I recently ordered the Sicilian Margarita filled with milagro reposado tequila, Salerno blood orange, nonino amaro, and fresh citrus. So refreshing!

I would also recommend the New Italian Spritz which is made with Aperol, citrus smash, and prosecco. It gives you that perfect bubbly satisfaction with every sip. If you’re not feeling a cocktail and prefer something traditional, their wide variety of wine and beer does not fail to satisfy. You’re even able to order your wine by the glass, Terzo (a third of a bottle), or bottle.

Main Course

Normally, I am a very traditional Spaghetti & Meatballs type of person. Knowing this, it comes as a surprise that I haven’t tried this classic dish at North. I am always intrigued by their variety of inventive pasta dishes which results in me making a spontaneous order and always being very satisfied. This time I got to try the Squid Ink Mafaldine which consists of white shrimp, calamari, acqua pazza, mint, fennel pollen, and Calabrian chili. I know – what a mouthful! It may sound intimidating but definitely give it a chance.

You can never go wrong with the Bolognese (house specialty) made with that traditional meat sauce, tagliatelle noodles, and Grana Padano cheese. Or, my other favorite is the Burrata Tortelloni which consists of cherry tomatoes, basil, pecorino, and rustic tomato sauce. Don’t be fooled, it may look like you can finish these dishes but sometimes a to-go box is the only option just because of how rich everything is.

Until Next Time

I know it sounds hard to believe but I still haven’t been able to order off of their dessert menu. Trust me, I want to but I have a habit of finishing everything I order which leads me to no room left to enjoy their delectable treats. But, it is definitely on my list to be able to save enough room to finally try their Salted Caramel Budino or Italian Butter Cake.

Give yourself an excuse to get dressed up and enjoy some heart-warming Italian classics with your friends or loved ones. Even if you’re not in The Domain area you can still spoil yourself at this eatery in downtown Austin at their other location on 2nd street. Don’t feel bad if you find yourself wanting to pay another visit to the North, I’ll probably see you there!
