Mario’s Seafood Restaurant In Austin – Detailed Review

Deliciously divine and beaming with culture, Mario’s Seafood is a must-try the next time you are craving a plate of authentic Mexican seafood.

Mario’s was opened in 2021 inspired by the passion for different cuisines and cultures of the vastly diverse parts of Mexico. Located in the St. Johns neighborhood of Austin, Mario’s Seafood has a great atmosphere that is accompanied by mouth-watering plates from beyond the border. From citrusy ceviche to whole grilled mojarra Mario’s has plenty of plates that will hit your taste buds like never before.

Mario’s Seafood Menu

I visited Mario’s Seafood with high hopes and left hoping I could come back to try even more. I started off with the Culichi Style Oysters, a harmonious trio of fresh oysters topped with shrimp ceviche, aquachile, and cocktail sauce. This preparation was like nothing I had ever had before as the oysters were complimented so well by their toppings.

Mazatleco Ceviche

I followed up the oysters with the Mazatleco Ceviche that was a traditional combination of shrimp, fish, cilantro, carrots, peppers and avocado. This dish was delicious and brought back memories of the ceviche my Nana used to make from the fresh fish we caught on the Texas coast.

Camaron & Birria Tacos

Next up was the Camaron Tacos that featured guajillo marinated shrimp topped with a creamy cowboy slaw, salsa verde, cilantro and avocado. The marinade on the shrimp had exceptional depth and was perfectly complemented by the sweet and sour cowboy slaw.

Although Mario’s expertise is in seafood, when I saw the Birria Tacos on the menu I had to give them a try. They sure didn’t disappoint as the birria was full of flavor and the consomme pairing was impeccably rich.

Grilled Zarandeado Style Mojarra

By far the best thing I tried while I was at Mario’s Seafood was the Zarandeado Style Mojarra that was seasoned and grilled to perfection. There’s nothing better than a whole grilled fish and Mario’s specialty mojarra preparation flaked right off the bone. This traditional style of Mexican seafood was the best way to end my dining experience at Mario’s.

Conclusion

My palette was graced from the first bite to the last at Mario’s Seafood but what made it even better was the homey feeling you experience the second you walk through the door.

A truly authentic experience I highly recommend this fantastic restaurant to anyone looking for a new spot to indulge on traditional Mexican seafood.

Whether you make a reservation or walk in, Mario’s Seafood will welcome you with open arms and treat you to a meal you won’t soon forget.
