Daiso Store In Austin – Everything You Should Need To Know
With rising living costs happening everywhere around us, Daiso delivers an exciting and refreshing $1.50 price tag for all if not most items within the store. After years of seeing Daisos pop up in literally every single city but Austin – we finally got it, y’all – our very own Japanese Convenience Store.
In the past few years, we’ve had a series of large Asian chain franchises that enter the shopping center on Airport Blvd. With the recent addition, the plaza has completed the collection with Kinokinuya (Japanese Book Store), Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, 99 Ranch (Chinese Grocery Story), 85 Degrees (Bakery), and Daiso!
Daiso Officially In Austin
Daiso Austin officially announced their opening on October 27th on Facebook which immediately attracted hundreds of “Going” responses. Just like Paul Revere’s shot that was heard around the world, the news of Daiso’s opening reverted across the Austin community.
The day of the opening, there were hours of people wrapped around the shopping center awaiting their chance to enter Daiso (delay from proper social distancing measures). After each day, the volumes of purchases required a full inventory restock within the stores.
And much like the hundreds of other Austinites awaiting for the Daiso doors to open, I was definitely one of those individuals. As someone who has never been to a Daiso, I had heard so much about the quality of the item in comparison to its price.
Everyone around me raves about how Daiso offers a little bit of everything ranging anywhere from essential house cleaning products, bowls, stationary products, to seasonal decorations, and Japanese food and snacks. Typically, stores with oddly low prices lead to many questionable eyebrow raises, but Daiso’s cheap price does not undercut the quality of its product.
As a newly acquired customer and Daiso fan, I can testify for the fact that the quality of Daiso products far exceeds the price that it’s set at. Below are some of my personal recommendations about hours of perusing down each aisle of Daiso every other day of the week.
Household
Dish Sponges: If you are looking for a durable, soft, and foam-inducing sponge that is essential for some intensive dish scrubbing – I highly recommend investing in Daiso sponges. Not only is the design cute but the practicality of the items are through the roof. My quality of life when it comes to washing dishes has definitely gone up since the purchase of these sponges.
Storage Containers: Personally, I always have a multitude of miscellaneous items that I just collect and randomly disperse around my home. And I had always been really hesitant of buying any drawers or baskets as most of these would cost from $10-$20 at Walmart or Ikea. Daiso offers these really cute graphic design cardboard containers along with weaved baskets that can be good to hold anything ranging from board games, attire, snacks, to blankets.
Bowls, Containers, and Other Kitchen Utensils
Daiso has these extremely nice bowls of various shapes, sizes, and designs that can be used for rice, soup, noodles, and anything of your liking. And with these bowls, Daiso also has such an enormous variety of wooden, steel, and plastic chopsticks, spoons, forks, knives, spatulas, ladles, etc. For anyone looking to add onto their kitchen drawers, this is honestly the perfect spot to go to add onto your kitchen collection.
Stationary
Paper, of all sorts: For any types of crafting or bullet journaling, Daiso has such a wide selection of paper and notebooks that you can choose from. Depending on the store and what they have available within inventory, one of my personal favorites is a notebook with really thick craft paper. There’s also a large variety of small stickies with extremely cute designs along with notepads and journals.
Miscellaneous Gifts
Daiso also has a really great selection of miscellaneous items that I think would make really great troll-gifts especially with the holiday season coming around. Many of these items are cute with questionable functionality. The two that really stood out to me was this cute ceramic “humidifier” where you just let the water sit and evaporate and a bathroom refresher in the form of a toilet sticker.
Unfortunately for now there is only one Austin location, located at 6905 Airport Blvd #160. They are open from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM nearly daily, but close at 9:00 PM on Saturdays.
Conclusion
Whenever you have the chance to, I highly recommend making a stop in that shopping plaza. Whether it is for Daiso or not, I can guarantee that you will leave that area buying something that you did not intend to buy going in. This Daiso opening is not something to take lightly, be sure to check it out.
