Armadillo Den – Detailed Review

Now that it is finally starting to feel like autumn in Austin, there is no better time to enjoy outdoor dining and live music. The Armadillo Den in South Austin is a 3-acre space with a bar, four food trucks, an outdoor bar, and frequent live music. It is dog and family-friendly and the perfect spot to enjoy the cooling weather. They also offer many yard games like corn hole and even axe throwing on the weekends.

The Armadillo Den is a casual spot that is great for neighborhood meetups or even to do work or study. They have free wifi plenty of space for kids to play and even an off-leash dog park for your furry friends. Dogs are always welcome; kids under 18 are allowed until 6 pm Monday – Friday. Also, if you show the staff a receipt from your rideshare there, they will give you 10% off to make up for their lack of parking places.

Within their large plot of land, the Armadillo Den has four food trucks on site regularly as well as a bar with beer on tap and craft cocktails. It is the perfect place to visit with your friends and family if you can’t agree on what to eat.

Biggie’s Yardbird

Biggie’s serves up Southern bar food, including some of Austin’s best burgers and chicken sandwiches. They also serve snacks like fried pickles and mozzarella sticks.  Their fried food is filling and the perfect meal for before, after, or during a night of drinking and fun.

Ranch Hand

Ranch Hand is a hearty health food truck that specializes in salads and grain bowls served with locally and sustainably raised meats. These superfood bowls are sure to fill you up and satisfy any of your more health-conscious friends on your evening out. They also offer vegan and vegetarian options.

Pueblo Viejo

Pueblo Viejo serves authentic Mexican food, specific tacos. Austin is known for its taco trucks and Pueblo Viejo is no exception. They have breakfast tacos as well as lunch and dinner combos, burritos, gorditas and snacks like chips and queso and even salads.

Mama Fried

Fries loaded with queso, meat, and jalapenos. Need we say more? Mama Fried takes cheesy fries from a snack to a whole meal but also serves sandwiches, corn dogs, and chicken wings.

Armadillo Den has an outdoor bar that serves craft cocktails, local and domestic draft beers, and mocktails. If none of their cocktails appeal to you, you can add a shot of your favorite liquor to a mocktail of your choice. Some of their most popular beverage include the blackberry lemonade sangria and their strawberry Moscow mule.

The Armadillo Den is known for its extensive live music lineup. They have performers and shows nearly every night on their outdoor stage. Typically the performances begin at 7 or 8 pm and go on until 11 pm. Visit their website for this month’s performance calendar.

The Armadillo Den does not take reservations, however, if you are interested in participating in axe throwing on the weekends, you can schedule your appointment here.

Online Order Process

Each of the food trucks at Armadillo Den has its own pick-up and delivery options. For Biggie’s Yardbird, visit their website to order online for pick up or delivery. Ranch Hand is not currently accepting online orders. Pueblo Viejo accepts online orders for pick up and delivery through Google Food. Mama Fried also partners with Google Food for online orders for pick up and delivery.
